Interviews

In an interview with Brazil “O Cruzeiro” newspaper, on July 05, 1973, Mr. Bassam Freiha ruled out any settlement in sight to the crisis in the Middle East, because of Israel’s intransigence and disinclination to facilitate reaching a just solution to the crisis. He visualized that the best solution would be in establishing a secular democratic state in all Palestine, in all its known historical borders, where Arabs and Jews live side by side on equal opportunities. He figured the way out to the war with Israel, technologically and in the media, in instituting an influential cultural base by way of opening new schools and sending scientific expeditions to developed countries.

In his conversation with “Assayad” Magazine, on October 27, 1995: he noted that the huge scientific achievements of recent years might enliven humanity while simultaneously destroying it. There is a great need for a global charter of honor that aims at guiding worldwide progress towards the service of humankind and not vice versa. It is crucial to safeguard the Arabic human capital, symbolized by scientists and experts and to benefit from their expertise and efficiencies.

To daily “Asharq Alawsat”, on November 14, 1988, Mr. Freiha outlined that he stepped up the journalism tree from bottom to top, thanks to the work he used to do in the various departments of Dar Assayad, from printing to the administration. My father, may God have mercy upon him, used to secure the family with the greatest level of higher education, which he himself had been deprived of. Dar Assayad was, since the beginning, set up on solid, purely professional grounds. It was the only one, which proved that good journalism could dispense with any external support. He sees that whenever a journalist gives up his main profession in greed for practicing other responsibilities, he, by, this, completely obliterates his vocation. He clarified, in an answer, that he considered himself just a businessman for managing an institution of 900 employees and workers that supplied 900 families. Except that, he owns no other business, or company, or hotel, or even a small shop.
